    Question about alpha stim use?

I have a patient who is interested in using this product. I had a few questions.

I wanted to know about any literature for use in Bipolar patients and any incidence of Mania or hypomania with it?

It seems to function similiar to ECT, is that correct?  If so, if someone has failed ECT would that lessen the chance of response to this?

Is there anyone is in the Sacramento, CA area who is familiar with this if i wanted to refer someone to have this administered to them?

How often and who adjusts the treatment?

Why is there a need for a prescription?

Thats all for now, thank you for your help.

Re: Question about alpha stim use?

There is a lot of literature on depression, but none on bipolar. It seems to be more suited as a therapy for the depressed stage. It will not induce mania.

It has no similarities whatsoever with ECT. Except of course they both use electricity. Not all drugs are alike just because they are chemical-based. The physics are completely different, as is the mechanisms, applications and effects. ECT does not appear to reduce the effect of CES but that is only based on survey data.

The practitioner or patient can adjust the current (current+time=dosage). The rest is pretty much standardized. The device comes with instructions for use and we provide toll free clinical support. It is very easy to use.

It is available OTC worldwide except in the USA. You will have to ask the FDA why that is. If you find out, we'd sure like to know. It took us 7 years to get their blessing to market Alpha-Stim in the USA for anxiety, insomnia and depression.

There are several good practitioners in the Sacramento area but we will not disclose that in a Forum. Please call 1-800-367-7246 for a referral to a qualified psychiatrist in your area.
