Alison Caldwell-Andrews, PhDResearch DirectorDr. Alison Caldwell-Andrews joined Electromedical Products International, Inc. in September 2006 as the company’s Research Director. Dr. Caldwell-Andrews is a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of Connecticut. She received her Ph.D. (2000) and an M.S. (1998) in Clinical Psychology from the University of Kentucky, and she has a background in human and family development/family science (BS, 1990; Brigham Young University). After completing her clinical internship at River Valley Services in Middletown, Connecticut, Dr. Caldwell-Andrews completed a post-doc at Yale (2000-2001) and then joined the Yale faculty as an Associate Research Scientist with the Department of Anesthesiology. While there, she was first the Research Program Manager and later the Director of Research for the Center for the Advancement of Perioperative Health (under the executive direction of Dr. Zeev Kain). Dr Caldwell-Andrews provided project management, rigorous research design, organizational planning, training, and scientific supervision for over 25 studies (running 8-12 concurrently at a time) within the field of perioperative health in parents, children and adults. These studies focused on biological outcomes (psychoneuroendocrinology, actigraphy sleep studies, etc.), psychological outcomes (anxiety and behaviors), and behavioral interventions for families, children, parents and adults. An additional focus of this research group was in providing empirical tests of complementary/alternative medical treatments such as acupuncture and Alpha-Stim. As an associate research scientist in the Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Caldwell-Andrews worked toward solutions for women, families and children’s health in the perioperative hospital environment. She tied behavioral changes to improved medical outcomes and created interventions that not only resolved specific clinical difficulties but also offset hospital costs. Her expertise in rigorous design, data collection and analysis led to successful publications and grant obtainment. Dr. Caldwell-Andrews received funding from the National Institutes of Health as a grantee to study the impact of an anxiety-focused intervention on hysterectomy patients (NIMH) and as an LRP recipient to support her work in pediatric clinical research (NIH-LRP program). She has published 25 papers in peer-reviewed journals. In addition to her work with Electromedical Products International, Inc., Dr. Caldwell-Andrews’ current research interests include the application of behavioral technologies to medicine, pediatric psychology, providing solid empirical evidence to test a variety of alternative health treatments, intervention outcomes, and – a primary interest – strengthening the family. Clinical interests include anxiety and depressive disorders, the interface between spirituality, nutrition and health, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and effective teams management. In addition to thoroughly enjoying her work, Alison’s favorite things include her husband and 3 children, socializing with friends, music, creative writing, church service and gourmet cooking. She is also listed in Who's Who in American Women, Who's Who in Medicine and Health, and Who's Who in the World. |
